CARACAS, Venezuela, June 29, 2021.- After various protocol acts, the president of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee –COV- Eduardo Álvarez Camacho, inaugurated an initiative to provide support and recognition to the federative sports movement of his country, an event that was held at La Casa Venezuela, a spacious facility in the Caracas city, which was refurbished to become the home of national sports federations that have no headquarters.

Through a formal consignment act, Professor Álvarez handed over the keys to the first offices to various federative leaders, including Emgelbert Farfán, president of the Venezuelan Electronic Sports Federation (FVDE).

Farfán, aware of the symbolic value of this recognition said: “On behalf of all the cyber athletes of our country, the FVDE board and all of our team, we want to express our deep gratitude to the entire COV family, especially to Professor Eduardo Alvares and Dr. Elida Parraga for all the support for the development and growth of the eSports in our country. Their vision and trust commit us to continue working and giving the best of ourselves as a platform for the projection of human resources at a national, regional, and international level, from this new space. We hope together with all federative colleagues to take on new challenges and leave the name of Venezuela high. Thank you!!”

Emgelbert Farfán has a degree in Social Communication, he has dedicated his entire professional life to the development of the video games and digital entertainment industry in his country. With more than 17 years of experience, he continues to bet on the growth of this sector despite the hostile conditions for his union. Among his career and achievements, the following stand out: being a Founding Member and Executive Director of the largest call event about games in his country, GAMEXPO; be an activist in defense of the rights of independent developers, users and wholesalers, as president of the Foundation for Information and Protection of Video Game Users Filantropía, which since 2009 has been fighting a vindication battle against the infamous instrument of censorship of the Law for the Prohibition of Video Games and War Toys, its consequences have led to a devastating drain of talent and human resources in the sector. Currently the foundation has made progress with the new permanent Commission of science, technology, education and health of the National Assembly in Venezuela.

In 2017, he presented the project proposal toc create the Venezuelan Electronic Sports Federation before the board of directors of the COV, so thanks to the vision of Professor Eduardo Álvarez, he began the arduous work of complying with all the requirements until becoming an organization affiliated to the COV, at the same time he carried out the procedures before the National Sports Institute (IND) where, thanks to its constancy, the category of “Electronic Sports” has been opened in the national sports registry, which cemented the way for the formalization of the discipline at the highest levels in Venezuela.

From the presidency of the FVDE, he has made an invaluable contribution to the eSport movement in his country against all odds, by obtaining international recognition and certifications as a full member of the International Esport Federation (IESF), the World Esports Consortium (WESCO), the Pan American Esports Confederation (PAMESCO), which, in recognition of his career, appointed him as a member of the Board of Directors, where he hopes to continue supporting the continental movement.

To conclude, we asked Farfán for a message for the regional movement and its perspectives for the future, “We are going through the golden age of the flourishing and progressive consolidation of the eSports ecosystem, I am happy to assume the historical call together with a group of extraordinary leaders in the region, where from PAMESCO with its more than 18 member nations, we will have the enormous responsibility of projecting the region and highlighting the best of each organized movement and high performance in Latin America and the Caribbean, to position ourselves as referents in the most prestigious international stages.
